Before digital banking, people often had to visit a bank branch to do their banking. That meant opening a checking or savings account at whichever bank or credit union was in the neighborhood. Thus, there was little need for extensive research on which banks have the best rates and sign-up bonuses.

But the internet has vastly changed banking, as it has other industries. In the United States, for example, you can open an account at almost any bank as long as you are a U.S. citizen. While many choices are good, they also can make it difficult and perhaps overwhelming to decide where to open an account.

Of course, bank offers aren’t everything. You probably have other requirements, like low fees and minimum balances. Fortunately, the banks on this list meet those requirements in most cases. More important, narrowing it down to a few options instead of being overwhelmed with hundreds of choices can make it much easier to decide. If you are considering opening a checking or savings account, these banks have some of the best offers right now.

SoFi Banking

Offer: Up to $250

SoFi Banking will give you a bonus of up to $250 when you open an account and set up direct deposit. You must have direct deposits of $5,000 in the first 25 days to claim the $250 offer. If your deposits total less than $5,000, the bonus will be just $50.

Opening an account with SoFi Banking isn’t just about the bonus. The account has lots of other perks, like up to 3.75% APY and getting paid up to two days early. Plus, there are no monthly fees or minimum balances.

Chase Total Checking

Offer: Up to $200

Chase Total Checking has an offer of up to $200 when you set up direct deposit within 90 days of enrollment. Unlike some bank offers, you don’t need direct deposits totaling a specific amount to qualify for the bonus. You must have direct deposits of $500 or more per month to avoid the $12 service fee. Alternatively, you can avoid the service fee with a minimum daily balance of $1,500 or with a daily average balance of $5,000 in your Chase Total Checking and qualifying linked Chase bank accounts.

HSBC Premier Checking

Offer: Up to $500

HSBC is offering a bonus of up to $500 when you open a Premier Checking account. To qualify, you must open your account by Feb. 15 and have qualifying direct deposits of at least $10,000 for three consecutive calendar months from the second full calendar month after account opening.

Also, there is a $50 monthly service fee unless you maintain at least $75,000 of deposits and/or investments in your HSBC accounts. Alternatively, you can have at least $5,000 in total direct deposits per month or maintain a U.S. residential mortgage loan with an original loan amount of at least $500,000.
