Amazon/Meta-alum Ellam embarks on new mission with London climate risk platform Climate X

Climate X has poached Monzo Bank’s head of technical programme management, Andrew Ellam, to serve as its vice president of technology.

Ellam’s Monzo tenure coincided with the ramping up of its internal carbon emissions programme, aimed at achieving net zero in the branchless neobank by 2030 at the latest.

He’s also an alum from two of the big US tech players, Amazon and Facebook (now Meta.), and his full resume includes over two decades of tech expertise.

An MBA graduate of London Business School, Ellam also recently served on a tech consulting board at the national trade body for UK financial services, UK Finance.

ClimateX’s climate risk data analytics platform, Spectra, produces intelligence on possible climate-related risks to physical assets in an organisation’s international pipeline, offering global predictive coverage up to the year 2100.

The platform gives probability estimates  for unfavourable weather events and other climate risks, allowing the client to plan ahead and publish formal disclosures of a property’s energy efficiency, known as energy performance certifications, as well as bulletins assessing likely financial impacts.

Lukky Ahmed, ClimateX co-founder and CEO, welcomed Ellam’s appointment, commenting: “I’m delighted that we’re seeing world-class talent join Climate X – to help accelerate our ambitions to solve complicated climate-related challenges through best-in-class technological solutions.

“Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the Climate FinTech industry. He will be pivotal in leading a team that will deliver a market-leading platform that customers can use to process trillions of data points, all within seconds, at a global scale and without compromising on security.”

Ellam himself added: “For me, climate change is the biggest threat facing our generation and future generations. I’ve joined Climate X with a shared vision to provide the insights firms need to help improve things – to build a climate-resilient economy that can withstand the challenges ahead.”
