Sorare, a blockchain-powered fantasy sports platform, has partnered with the English Premier League (EPL) to create Ethereum-based digital player cards for its platform. By offering users unique and exclusive trading possibilities of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on different marketplaces, Sorare is spearheading exciting use cases for Ethereum-based fantasy sports and digital card collecting. This collaboration allows soccer fans worldwide to mint, collect and trade virtual versions of their favorite players’ cards amongst one another.

After officially declaring the partnership on January 30th, a Sorare representative commented that talks between them and the league have been happening for some time.

In 2019, Sorare made a major breakthrough in the EPL network by signing West Ham United as its first English club partner. According to reports, the two parties have agreed upon a four-year deal with undisclosed contract values due to contractual reasons. This agreement is bound to benefit both sides in the years ahead.

The spokesperson for the company also clarified how this deal would be structured, with Sorare making an initial payment to the league in exchange for licensing rights. Then, a portion of profits from digital card sales would be split between Sorare and the Premier League.

Sorare is a one-of-a-kind platform that mints digital cards of EPL players on the Ethereum blockchain. The platform has been using ERC-721 token standard for its NFT player cards, allowing fans to collect and trade these tokens and use them in the fantasy sports league.

Also, Sorare is launching EPL digital cards, available for purchase before being tradable on acclaimed marketplaces such as OpenSea. Uniting fans, players, and organizations through blockchain technology has been the mission of the fantasy sports platform.

For Sorare, this innovative technology links users with their favorite teams and clubs. We are excited to see it creating the next generation of sports fanatics and entertainment experiences.

In recent years, NFTs have become highly sought-after items, from digital trading cards and sports highlights to NBA Top Shots that skyrocketed in 2021. Football leagues worldwide are increasingly taking advantage of blockchain-based platforms for their collectibles.
