Leeds City Council issues statement on new way to pay for parking in council car parks

3 Min Read

Leeds City Council is working with a new parking provider so the way people pay for parking will change from this week.

Previously people were able to use Ringgo to pay for parking in council car parks. However, the council will now use provider ‘PayByPhone’.

Information about this can be found below:

What is PayByPhone?
PayByPhone is a mobile phone service, enabling you to pay for your parking by credit or debit card, rather than with cash at a machine. Parking payment can also be made via the PayByPhone automated payment service line. The telephone number is displayed on signs in the relevant car parks and streets. More information is available online.

What is cashless parking?

You will now be able to pay for your parking safely and securely using your mobile device.

What are the benefits?
-You don’t need to put a ticket on your dashboard

-Civil enforcement officers use handheld devices to check which vehicles have paid

-Paying with the app reduces the risk of receiving a penalty charge notice

-Receive a text message to remind you your session is about to expire

-If you’re running late or simply need a bit longer in town, just top up your parking wherever you are by using the service again.

How to register

To register for parking, you will need your email address, mobile telephone number, vehicle registration and a valid credit or debit card.

How to pay

1. Download the PayByPhone app

Download the app now from the Google Play and iOS App Store

2. Enter your location code

Enter the location code you wish to park in as advertised on street signage.

3. Enter your parking duration

Add the time duration you wish to park for. Check the details then confirm your selection.

4. Extend your parking anytime*

Add more time from wherever you are. Simply open the app and add time to your current parking meter.*Please note that the ability to extend parking depends on local parking restrictions and regulations.

Reminder texts and notifications
Opt-in to SMS reminders in your account settings and you won’t have to worry about dashing back to the parking machine anymore.

People will still be able to use cash or card when paying.
